The borrowing policy reflects the research needs for students in specific programs, while ensuring availability of materials to students. A current Drew ID card must be presented to charge out library materials, and borrowers are responsible for all items charged on their accounts. Reference and periodical items do not circulate.
Total items a borrower may charge and loan periods
Students pursuing an MDiv, MTS, or DMin degree may borrow 100 items. Students pursuing an PhD degree may borrow 200 items.
Due dates for theological students are January 1, June 1 and August 15.
Theological students may renew an item unlimited times; provided the item is not being recalled. There are three renewal options: use "My Library Account" online; submit a renewal form or bring items to the Circulation Desk. No phone renewals. All materials are subject to recall 30 days after the original charge out date. Items needed for Reserve may be recalled at any time. Students are subject to fines and replacement charges. Overdue and fine notices are sent to Drew University email accounts. Follow-up courtesy calls are made to Drew campus phone numbers. The library does not charge students daily overdue fees. However, items overdue for 40 days are automatically assumed to be lost and a per item replacement charge is placed against the borrower's account. Replacement fee is $75 per book. Assumed lost items must be brought to the Circulation Desk for discharging. Once returned the $75 fee per item is reduced to a lesser amount. If the library has purchased a replacement copy, the $75 fee is not reduced.
Suspension of Borrowing Privileges
When an item becomes assumed lost all library borrowing privileges are automatically suspended until either the book has been returned or the replacement fee paid.
Items are subject to recall 30 days after the original charge out date. However, items needed for Reserve may be recalled at any time. Recalls are requests by current Drew faculty, staff, students or Reserves for material charged to another borrower. Recall notices are sent to Drew University email accounts. Follow-up courtesy calls are made to Drew campus phone numbers. Students are subject to recall fines and replacement charges. Recall privileges are suspended if a recalled item is not returned promptly.
Recalling an item
You may place a hold/recall on a checked-out item while in the library catalog.
- When viewing a brief title record in the catalog, [Place Hold] or [Cannot place hold] will display.
- Click on [Place hold].
- Verify that this is the item you want and click on Place a Hold in the Items Resources Box.
- Prompt will require your Drew user name & password. Click [OK] to complete process.
Hold requests may also be submitted by completing a recall card at the Circulation Desk.
You will be notified via email to your Drew email when the item has been returned and is on hold for you.
Fines for failure to return a recalled item
Maximum fine for failure to return a recall for an individual is $20.00. Maximum fine for failure to return a Reserves recall is $45.00. If a Reserves recall is not returned in two weeks and the library purchases a new copy for Reserves, an additional replacement fee of $75.00 will be charged.
