The following are a list of best practices for using the Trimble GPS Units.  Remember that these are expensive and sensitive pieces of equipment meant to be shared among the entire Drew community.  Caring for and using them properly will insure that they will have a long, useful life.

Hand Strap

Always use the hand strap on the back of the GPS unit when handling or using.  This reduces the risk of dropping it.

Stylus

Only use the stylus provided to tap the display screen of the GPS unit.  Do not remove the stylus tether.

If the tether breaks and the stylus gets lost, a spare stylus has been included in the GPS travel kit.

Cleaning the Display Screen

Only use the grey cleaning cloth provided to clean the GPS unit display.  The grey cleaning cloth is kept in the storage pocket of the yellow GPS travel pouch.

Only use plain water with the grey cleaning cloth to wipe the display.

If the grey cleaning cloth gets lost, use a soft, 100% cotton cloth to clean the display.

Lost/Stolen Components

If any components of the travel kit are lost or stolen while the GPS is in your possession, report the lost/theft when you return the GPS unit so that Spatial Data Center staff can replace them.
