What are VAWA and the Campus SaVE Act?
These These terms refer to laws that are designed to address sexual misconduct and violence on-campus. They were signed by President Obama in 2013 and become effective in October, 2014. VAWA refers to the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which includes the Campus SaVE Act (or Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act). In addition, comprehensive implementing regulations were recently proposed by the Office of Civil Rights, in the federal Department of Education, on June 20, 2014. They will become final later in 2014, and effective in 2015.
