I am struck by the profound and extensive convergence between Bultmann's and H. Richard Niebuhr's understandings of God, of faith in God, and of the nature of the change involved in coming to faith in God. Equally striking is the convergence between their two accounts of what the term "God" refers to – as revealed by a close comparative reading of Bultmann's "Die Krisis des Glaubens" and Niebuhr's "Faith in Gods and in God."
