Banner 9 introduces a new 'look and feel' for administrative users.

  • a more intuitive design
  • improvements in information presentation
  • some additional navigational features such as being able to extract data from most pages to excel and search for a page if you don't know the 7 letter acronymn
  • responsive design (allows for the screen to auto adjust for things like tablets)

The Banner 9 pages are the same pages you are used to in 8x forms, such as SPAIDEN, GJAPCTL, and TSAAREV.   The data on the pages is still the same, while it may be reorganized a bit for ease of use.  The underlying database and job submissions processes are all the same as 8x.

The underlying technology behind the UI has been completely replaced.  The value of these changes includes:

  • moving to a web based technology that is compatible with all popular web browsers
  • allowing greater control of the screen design and functionality
  • makes the pages more intuitive for users
  • consistency across screens so users can move seamlessly across Banner without needing to relearn how this page navigates
  • a simplified process for updates and upgrades resulting in a reduction in technical time and effort
  • provides a path to cloud based deployments (e.g. Marist)

Why now?

The technology that Ellucian Banner 8x and all prior versions were built upon used Oracle forms.  Oracle forms will be a desupported technology by December 31, 2018.
