I concluded my essay in the Festschrift for Marxsen with the following sentence:

...

Jesus kann als Gottes Sohn bekannt werden (oder was der Glaubende auch sonst noch als angemessen über ihn aussagt), nicht insofern Jesus seinem Gott glaubte, sondern allein insofern wir selbst (und andere durch uns) in entscheidender Weise durch ihn, und zwar so, wie wir ihm im christlichen Zeugnis begegnen, zum Glauben an Jesu Gott und damit an unseren Gott, zum Glauben an unseren Gott und damit an Jesu Gott gebracht worden sind oder werden konnenkönnen.

I have the following comments on Marxsen's modifications:

Ad: Jesus ist Gottes Sohn/Jesus kann als Gottes Sohn bekannt werden -- It was not I but Marxsen who formulated the question, not "Inwiefern kann Jesus als Gottes Sohn bekannt werden?" but "Inwiefern ist Jesus Gottessohn?" (Christologie -- praktisch: 32). I see no significant difference between the two formulations, especially if "can become known" (=bekannt werden konnenkönnen ) implies "can be true," and "can be true," in turn, implies "can be really the case." If Jesus  can become known as God's Son, it must be true that Jesus is God's Son, and if it is true that Jesus is God's Son, Jesus must really be God's Son.
