This page is to clarify and explain services offered by University Technology for Mac users at Drew

The computing environment at Drew exists to serve and support all functions of the University, and is available to all members of the Drew community. Computing is optimized for Drew-issued computers, desktops and laptops, which are serviced in-house by CNS. CNS is able to offer a very high level of service for Drew-issued computers because the environment is designed specifically to support these machines. This means that any machines outside of the system for which the computing environment was designed cannot be supported in the same way.

This page describes what University Technology is able to offer to Mac users on campus.

1. Assistance getting connected to the wireless network (where to go for said assistance? or link?)

2. Connecting to Drew Network Drives on campus (wired)

3. Software - current versions of

  • Microsoft Office for Mac
    • for Drew-owned computers, no cost (bring your Mac to the Faculty Lab in BC 11 - basement of Brothers College)
    • for non-Drew-owned computers (for Drew community members), Home Use Office for Mac (link to Computer Store -- the page has no reference to the HUP, nor are there even directions to the Computer Store. Should we be linking there? Or provide directions to/contact information for the Computer Store? Or leave them to take responsibility for their web page?)
  • GroupWise Email and Calendar Client for Mac, no cost (Click here for installation instructions)
  • We will help Mac users download and install Firefox, which is the preferred browser for Drew applications such as Moodle

offers Macs as an option for faculty and staff within certain guidelines.  It is our goal to provide a high level of support and service for the current "standard computers".  University Technology is also aware that members of the community are purchasing Macs for personal or other use outside of the standard computer program.  These computers will not have the same configuration as Drew-provided Macs and the scope of support will be more limited.

Instructions for Macs on Campus

University Technology will offer support for Macs on the topics listed below in the form of documentation linked from this page. Methods of accessing or utilizing Drew services from a Mac other than those listed, and any other Mac functionality not explicitly mentioned in these pages, are the sole responsibility of the computer owner. All procedures have been tested and are known to be working as of the published date of each document. Any problems or errors that arise in following these directions most likely indicates issues specific to your computer and should be referred to an Apple Store or similar resource.
