VALE borrowers are subject to overdue fines of 10 cents a day. The maximum overdue fine per item is $10.00. Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy, due date slips are placed in each book at check-out. Items overdue for 40 days are automatically assumed to be lost and a per item replacement charge is placed against the borrower's library account. Replacement fee per book is $75 per book. Once returned the $75 fee is reduced to a $10 per item administrative chargelesser amount. If the library has purchased a replacement copy the $75 fee is not reduced. Fines over $20 will result in loss of borrowing privileges until the fine has been paid.
