  • Standardized on Intel-based x86/x64 hardware, 1U or 2U rackmount HP Proliant servers
  • Operating systems - SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (versions 8, 9 and 10), Windows Server 2000 SP4 and 2003 SP1 and SP2, and Novell Netware 6.5 SP6. Virtual servers hosted on VMware ESX Server 3.02 and 3.5 software.
Storage
  • SAN, Fibre-Channel based, 2GB and 4GB mixed
  • 4.5 TB of primary storage. HP Storageworks EVA 6000 array in the Learning Center
  • Backup hardware - 6 TB of secondary disk (SATA, Fibre Channel based), 30TB of tape (LTO-3, SAN-attached) in Brothers College
Networking
  • 1GB Ethernet to all switches, mostly 10/100 MB to workstations. Servers have 1GB interfaces
  • Standardized on Cisco networking hardware for core switches and wireless access points, older edge switches. Newer edge swiches are HP Procurve.
  • Approximately 140 network switches, including 4 core networking switches in the Learning Center, Brothers College, Holloway and Pepin
  • Approximately 100 wireless access points. Most academic and University facilities covered, adding wireless to residence hall lounges. Notable exceptions - Mead Hall and the Simon Forum. Newer locations are equipped with access points capable of 802.11b and higher-speed 802.11g wireless.
  • Fiber optic cable on campus - mostly multi-mode, 62.5 micron FDDI-rated cable, installed 1996-1998. There is new 50-micron multi-mode as well as single-mode cable between Pepin and the Learning Center and the Learning Center and Brothers College.
