To determine that bearing witness is credible requires determining either (1) that the metaphysical utterances whose credibilty it implies substantially agree with those that doing metaphysics rightly formulates; or (2) that the self-understanding authorized by bearing witness, and explicitly authorized by the religious utterances bearing it, substantially agrees with the self-understanding implicitly authorized by the metaphysical utterances rightly formulated by doing metaphysics.
