I should still say that theology may be defined, in a broad and improper sense, in the way I used to define it -- namely, as the self-explication of faith.

But I should feel compelled to add that theology must be defined, in the strict and proper sense, as critical reflection on faith's self-explication in witness, i.e., critical interpretation of the meaning of witness and critical validation of its validity, sc. the claims to validity made or implied in bearing it.
