Rightly distinguishing things means seeing them in their unity as well as their difference, and vice versa.

In the case of Christian witness and theology, rightly distinguishing them means seeing the unity as well as the difference, and the difference as well as the unity, between making or implying claims to validity, on the one hand, and critically reflecting on the witness making or implying such claims, on the other.

In the case of theology and historical theology, rightly distinguishing them means seeing the unity as well as the difference, and the difference as well as the unity, between critically reflecting on the witness making or implying claims to validity, on the one hand, and critically interpreting that witness, on the other.
