The Notebooks of Schubert Ogden
Inheritance is evidently a cultural as well as a biological phenomenon. But what, exactly, is the difference?
To inherit culturally, Hartshorne says, is to inherit "roles and ideas or purposes," whereas to inherit biologically is to inherit one's "very being" ("The Individual Is a Society": 74).
