Toxic fumes and other hazardous substances may come from mechanical equipment, stored chemicals, cleaners, substances used in construction, pest control, etc. A master list of hazardous substances used in library operations (does not include mechanical or custodial substances) is maintained in the Conservation Unit in compliance with the state Right-To-Know law. Master lists for all substances in use throughout the campus are maintained in the Public Safety Office and in Hall of Sciences S-219.
Acute effects:
The victim may receive chemical burns, or undergo an allergic reaction from contact with toxic fumes or substances. Inhalation of fumes may cause weakness, dizziness, headaches, nausea, or unconsciousness.
