First, what is a MAC address?

A media access control address, or MAC address, is a way to identify the device you are using so that information you look for online gets to your device.

How do I find the MAC address on my device?

A Google search for "MAC address" and the type of device you have will usually yield the most up-to-date instructions. However, we have collected general directions for you below. Click on the device you have to see instructions specific to your needs.

  • Tap "Settings"
  • Select "General"
  • Select "About"
  • The MAC address is listed as the "WiFi Address"


From the WiFi screen:

  • Tap the menu key
  • Select "Advanced"
  • Scroll to the bottom of the screen to see the MAC-Address


  • Open the the Start menu
  • In the search box, type “cmd” and press Enter
  • A command prompt will open. Type “ipconfig /all” and press Enter
  • Look for the wifi adapter section (may have to scroll up to find it). Instead of MAC Address it's called “Physical Address”

Alternate directions if you are using a wireless connection:

  • Open "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Wi-Fi"
    • Shortcut: type "Wi-Fi settings" in the Start menu search box
  • Click on Hardware properties.
  • Scroll down and at the bottom of the properties list will be the Physical Address (MAC).


If you are using a wireless connection:

  • Click the "WiFi" icon
  • Select "Network Preferences" or "Open Network Preferences"
  • Select the name of the wireless connection (could be “WiFi” or “Airport”) if not already selected
  • Click “Advanced” and then “Hardware” to see the MAC address

If you are using a wired connection (also works with wireless):

  • Open the Apple menu via the Apple Icon in the upper Left
  • Open "System Preferences" > "Network"
  • Choose your network connection and click "Advanced"
  • Select the Hardware tab to see the MAC address
