Technical Services Assistant 

 

Position Summary: The Technical Services Assistant performs technical services duties relating to the discovery and access of library resources for university students, faculty, staff and guest users. This position will assist in processing (primarily labeling, some stamping and application of security strips) to physical books, government documents, and audiovisual materials. Assistants will contribute to the effort by doing light cataloging work, re-labeling and pulling of materials. The position reports to the Technical Services Dept. and works at Drew Library’s Tech Services office. 

 

 

  • Duties and responsibilities:
  • Checks in materials 
  • Assign Library of Congress Classification numbers to previously cataloged books
  • Transports and redistributes books and other library materials
  • Edit cataloged records
  • Withdraws and arranges for disposal of books
  • Retrieve books from the stacks
  • Shelve library materials in proper order
  • Coordinate with other departments and execute special projects

 

  • Required Training and Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to learn the multiple classification call number systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in work
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to participate in project planning, operation and completion

 

Note: The ability to lift books, push heavy book carts, and tolerate exposure to dust is required.

 

The position is for the academic year, i.e. both fall and spring semesters with the opportunity to continue from year to year throughout the student’s academic career at Drew.
