The Notebooks of Schubert Ogden
"Assertion" is evidently ambiguous insofar as it can refer either
(1) to the concrete act of communication whereby a speaker makes or implies a truth-claim of some kind to some hearer; or
(2) to the abstract unit of language through which this truth-claim is made or implied.
Does this ambiguity reflect the difference between speech (= la parole) and language (= la lingue)?
