What is the Food Systems Working group?

In Fall 2011, Drew University became the second university in the nation to sign the Real Food Commitment. Drew committed to dedicate 20% of Dining Hall purchasing dollars to “real food” by 2020 and to create a Food Systems Working Group, a University Food Policy, a Multi-Year Action Plan, and an annual progress report. It also pledged to use the Real Food Calculator to engage in an annual assessment of Dining Hall purchases.

The Drew University Food Systems Working Group (FSWG) was created in Fall 2011 as a project of the Drew University Sustainability Committee. The FSWG monitors the progress of food sustainability on campus and works to implement the Real Food Commitment. The group includes students, faculty, staff, and the director of Drew Dining Services.

This year, the Working group's charge includes:
1) Writing a Multi-Year Action Plan to bring Drew into compliance with our University Food Policy.
2) The Real Food Calculator Annual Assessment for Spring 2014.
3) An annual progress report to the Real Food Challenge.

We also hope to partner with other campus groups to host events and/or gatherings related to Food Systems and sustainability on campus.
