Karl Barth, Kirchliche Dogmatik I/1: 117 f.

"Revelation produces the scripture that attests it: as the commission, the 'burden,' laid upon prophets and apostles, as the object that obtrudes itself upon them, as at once their judge and the guarantee of the truth of what they say, as the event of inspiration, in which they become speakers and writers of the word of God. Because revelation produces the Bible that attests it, because Jesus Christ has called the Old and the New Testaments into existence, because holy scripture is the document of a unique hearing of a unique call, the document of a unique obedience to a unique command -- for this reason, the Bible could become the canon, and for this reason it can become the moved canon again and again: the announcer of revelation, the call and command of God, the word of God, to us."
