Cite While You Write allows users to insert footnotes, endnotes, and bibligraphic bibliographic references into their papers as they write.  This feature is only compatible with Microsoft Word; if you are using another program to write your thesis or dissertation, you will need to put citations in by hand. 

The Cite While You Write feature in Endnote Web requires that users install a plug-in for Internet Explorer.  Before installing, check the program's system requirements here .  If your computer does not meet these requirements, the Cite While You Write feature will not function.  It may also cause conflicts with other programs on your computer.

If your computer meets the system requirements, you may install the Cite While You Write feature by following these instructions for Windows users:

Install MyEndnoteWeb Cite While You Write Plug-In

  1. Log in to Endnote Web.
  2. Click on the Format Tab.  Choose the Cite While You Write Plug-In option. 
  3. Select either the Windows or MacIntosh option, depending upon your computer.  The Opening EndNoteWeb.EXE dialog box will appear.  Click on

  1. Run.

  1.   The Internet Explorer Security Warning dialog box will appear.

  1. Click Run.
  2. The EndNote Web Setup wizard will begin to run.  When prompted, enter your name and use Drew University as the company.  Click Next.
  3. Allow the program to install itself in the default location by clicking Next twice. 
  4. When prompted, click Finish.
  5. Close the Internet Explorer web browser to finish the installation
