Some software requires the use of a browser plug-in. If a plug-in is required, it is noted in the table below. Plug-ins add additional functionality to a web browser and must be installed separately by downloading the plug-in from the vendor's web site. The most commonly needed plug-ins are Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Oracle Java. For security and compatibility reasons, University Technology recommends using the latest available version of required plug-ins and recommends that you keep plug-ins up to date when prompted. In the past, compatibility issues have arisen with the Java plugin and Drew's administrative software and we have asked users to avoid Java updates. This is no longer the case and we currently recommend that users use the currently shipping version of the Java 8 plugin as it is supported with the applications listed in the table below.

About CloudPC

Some software is available through University Technology's CloudPC service. CloudPC enables you to access Windows-based Drew software from anywhere in the world without having the software installed locally on your computer. Before you can use CloudPC for the first time, you must install the vWorkspace Connector on your computer by following our instructions. You may wish to or need to use CloudPC to access a particular application for any of these reasons:

  • Use of Windows-based software on a Macintosh computer. For applications which are only available on Windows PCs, such as Argos reporting, use the CloudPC service to access the software on your Mac.
  • Security. Some applications are designed in such a way as to require direct access to Drew servers or sensitive databases that cannot be made available over the internet or campus network without incurring unwarranted risk. Such software will only be provided via the secure CloudPC environment and will not be available for installation directly on end-user computers. Examples of these applications include Automic Application Manager (UC4), The Raiser's Edge, The Housing Director, and others.
  • Convenience. Software delivered through CloudPC does not need to be installed on your computer and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. For this reason, CloudPC is our preferred method for delivering Windows-based software that Drew students, faculty, and staff require.
