Cite While You Write

Cite While You Write allows users to insert footnotes, endnotes, and bibligraphic references into their papers as they write.  This feature is only compatible with Microsoft Word; if you are using another program to write your thesis or dissertation, you will need to put citations in by hand.

The Cite While You Write feature in Endnote Web requires that users install a plug-in.  Before installing, check the program's system requirements here .  If your computer does not meet these requirements, the Cite While You Write feature will not function.  It may also cause conflicts with other programs on your computer.

If your computer meets the system requirements, you may install the Cite While You Write feature by following these instructions for Windows users:

Log in to Endnote Web.

Click on the Format Tab.  Choose the Cite While You Write Plug-In option.

Select either the Windows or MacIntosh option, depending upon your computer.  The Opening EndNoteWeb.EXE dialog box will appear.  Click on Save File.

The Downloads dialog box will appear.  The file will be saved to a location that depends upon your web browser's settings.  In the Downloads dialog box, right click on the EndNoteWeb.EXE title.  If you are presented with an option that says "Open Containing Folder" choose that option.  If this option does not present itself, the file has been saved to your computer's Desktop.
