I take it that Whitehead is talking about basically one and the same thing when he says, in one place, that "[t]he antithesis between the general good and the individual interest can be abolished only when the individual is such that its interest is the general good" and when he speaks, in another place, of "the sublimation of the egoistic aim by its inclusion of the transcendent whole" (PRc: lSi AI: 380).
