"Every agent and every creator produces results beyond itself only by influencing the self-determination of other agents, or creators. Decision is always shared, so far as effects upon others are concerned [,which is why the ability to make merely unilateral decisions is meaningless]. The perfect form of this shared decision means, not ideal ability to decide detailed results, but ideal ability to decide general outlines. These outlines are the laws of nature. . . . They set the limits within which the lesser agents can effectively work out the details of their existence" ("The Modern World and a Modern View of God": 79).

"God creates [, not the actuality, but] the possibility of what God knows, but actualities are self-creative. The creatures are also creators and the creator is also creature. Deity is the supreme form of causing and the supreme form of being caused, of activity and passivity, of giving and receiving. This is dual transcendence" (The Philosophy of Charles Hartshorne: 614).
