The Notebooks of Schubert Ogden

SCANNED PDF

The sciences and metaphysics, properly so-called, have in common a concern for the structure of reality in itself in abstraction from the meaning of reality for us. The difference between all of the sciences, on the one hand, and metaphysics, on the other, is simply that the theories about structure developed by the first are empirical and so subject to empirical falsification, whereas the theories about structure developed by the second are existential and so incapable of being empirically falsified.
