The Notebooks of Schubert Ogden

SCANNED PDF

Existentialism, in the final analysis, is arguably but an acknowledgement of our fragmentariness—more exactly, a recognition of our fragmentariness as one that understands itself, and therewith, in principle, understands, everything else. This it does, of course, only fragmentarily and therefore always questioningly as well as trustingly and loyally.

Note the interesting correspondence here to W. A. Christian's analysis of "basic supposition" (trust), "basic question" (acknowledgement of fragmentariness), and "open commitment" (loyalty).
