The Notebooks of Schubert Ogden
Just as being called to be a Christian is special in that it comes to only some human beings and not to all, so being called to be a human being is also special in coming not to all creatures but to only some.
In both cases, however, the special serves the completely general – the well-being of the whole – by serving the well-being of all the parts.
