Error Message When You Try to Open Firefox
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
This is an error message you will get anywhere on campus if you are logged in to a computer (say, you've left your laptop on in your dorm room), have Firefox open, and try to use Firefox on another computer on campus. By following these steps you can use the Firefox web-browser simultaneously on more than one computer on Campus.
Windows XP
- Click on Start and choose Run (the button right before last on the right side)
- In the box that pops up type firefox.exe -ProfileManager (Warning: capitalization and spaces count).
- Click OK
- A box will pop up giving you three tabs to choose from. Click on the fist tab, Create Profile.
- Click Next.
- Choose a name for your profile. It is only temporary so you don't have to remember the name later on.
- Click Finish.
- You will see the box with the three profile tabs again. Make sure your new Profile is highlighted and click Start Firefox.
