The VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement is a cooperative onsite borrowing agreement among participating VALE member colleges and universities. Under the agreement faculty and graduate students from participating institutions who are in good standing at their home library qualify for onsite borrowing privileges at each other's libraries. Before faculty or graduate students may borrow at one of the participating libraries, they must have a signed "VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Application Form" available at their home institution's library. To obtain a list of participating institutions, go to http://www.valenj.org/services-resources/reciprocal-borrowing-program .

To apply for on site borrowing privileges at a participating VALE library, obtain a signed application form from the Drew University Library Circulation Department. Carole Myers is the designated contact. Please call x 3486 or email cmyers@drew.edu in advance. If you are applying for privileges at more than one library, you must fill out an individual form for each library you will be visiting. Present the original application form along with a photo ID at the participating library's circulation desk. Drew will retain a copy of the application form. You will be issued borrowing privileges and/or a guest borrower card. Privileges are for one calendar year and expire June 30.

Any Drew faculty, staff and graduate students requesting a VALE borrowing application must have been in good standing with the library for a period of 6 months before being granted an application.  Good standing is defined as having no overdue item, late recall return, overdue Interlibrary Loan return or fine for the previous six months.

You will be responsible for complying with the lending library's circulation policies, including loan periods, overdue fines, recalls, and all replacement and processing fees, and for returning all borrowed items directly to the lending library.

Information for VALE faculty and graduate students applying for a borrowing card at the Drew University Library

VALE faculty or graduate students must present a signed VALE application form from their home library along with a photo ID to the Drew Library Circulation Desk. A Drew library VALE registration form must be completed. A VALE guest card will be issued; card expires June 30. Vale borrowers may check out a maximum of 10 books for a borrowing period of 30 days. No renewal or recall privileges are granted.

Vale borrowers who have not complied with our borrowing policies will not be granted Vale borrowing privileges in the future. Overdue books or unpaid fines on a Vale borrower account constitute non-compliance.

Fines

VALE borrowers are subject to overdue fines of 10 cents a day. The maximum overdue fine per item is $10.00. Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy, due date slips are placed in each book at check-out. Items overdue for 40 days are automatically assumed to be lost and a per item replacement charge is placed against the borrower's library account. Replacement fee per book is $75 per book. Once returned the $75 fee is reduced to a $10 per item administrative charge. If the library has purchased a replacement copy the $75 fee is not reduced. Fines over $20 will result in loss of borrowing privileges until the fine has been paid.

Suspension of Borrowing Privileges

When an item becomes assumed lost all library borrowing privileges are automatically suspended until either the book has been returned or the replacement fee paid.

Fines for failure to return a recalled item

Recalls are requests by current Drew faculty, staff, students or Reserves for material charged to another borrower. All books are subject to recall 30 days after the check-out date. Maximum fine for failure to return a recall for an individual is $20.00. Maximum fine for failure to return a Reserves recall is $45.00. If a Reserves recall is not returned in two weeks and the library purchases a new copy for Reserves, an additional replacement fee of $75.00 will be charged
