Samuel W. Bowne, a trustee of Drew Theological Seminary, donated $30,000 to build and furnish this gymnasium, which first opened in 1910.

Drew students used the facilities, including the pool depicted below until 1958, when Bowne Gymnasium became Bowne Theatre, now the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre.
