The point is obvious, and I may even have taken it into account to a certain extent in my previous thinking. But, in any case, if Christ is "the transformer of culture" (H. R. Niebuhr), Christ is also the transformer of religion, since religion is a fonu of culture, however unique relative to all of the other forms.

Of course, the transformation involved even in the transformation of religion is-in terms of the distinction employed in '"For FreedOlu Christ Has Set Us Free': The Christian Understanding of Ultimate Transformation" -only a "penultimate," not an "ultimate," transformation.
