INTRODUCTION

Minimizing the effects of a disaster requires preparedness.  To that end a small Task Force consisting of members of the Drew University Library’s Collections and Buildings Maintenance Team and a member of the Methodist Center has prepared this manual with information from the Northeast Document Conservation Center and other sources. The manual is intended to augment the accompanying Emergency Procedures Manual should more damage or a larger area be involved. The plan covers all the Drew University Library Collections  C Reference, Circulating, Special, University Archives, and Government Documents Collection and shelf list.  We realize that a disaster plan is never a fixed finished document.  It will evolve and improve over time and must be updated. We are grateful for the full cooperation of the Drew University Library Staff and the other occupants of our building -- the University Media Resource Center, Publications, Housing, Conferences and Hospitality, and Telecommunications -- in completing two surveys necessary to the success of this manual.. We also thank Tom Evans, Director of Public Safety, for reviewing this information.
